As the capital of Vanuatu, Port Vila is a beautiful mix of cultures, blending elements of Melanesian, European, Chinese and French tastes. The relaxed town has a colonial vibe and is set within a magnificent natural harbour.

 

The diving in Port Vila is full of hard corals, great reefs, tropical marine life, caves and swim throughs, plus multiple wrecks which are great for first time wreck divers or as a build up to the magnificent shipwrecks at Santo.

Accommodation - There is a huge range of accommodation options in Port Vila from budget right through to plush resorts. Port Vila even has its own island resort right next to the town.

Dive sites - The Star of Russia, The Cathedral, Tranquillity Bommies, Turtles Galore, Great Wreck Diving, Reefs to Rave About!

Best time to dive - The dry season of March through to October give the most stable weather and the best visability.

​

Other activities - Mele cascades waterfalls, jungle and beach buggy safari’s, scenic volcano flights.

SANTO - Melanesian culture, World War 2 history!

Santo is Vanuatu’s largest island rich in Melanesian culture with fascinating world war 2 history. This island was a major American military base with three airfields and over 100,000 personal stationed there. Evidence of this history is scattered throughout the jungle.

 

Its landscape features Vanuatu’s highest mountains, pristine beaches and alluring fresh water blue holes that need to be seen to be believed. It is a mecca for divers from all over the world because of the diversity of the diving offered, ranging from live coral to spectacular wrecks.

 

One of the many highlights of Santo is the SS President Coolidge – reportedly the largest wreck dive in the world. This legendary wreck offers over 20 different dive sites suitable for divers of all levels. Fresh water cave diving is also becoming popular, with the recent discovery of connecting sinkholes and caverns on the island.

 

MAD STATS

Accommodation - Deco Stop Lodge is an awesome cheap and cheerful option, Aore Island Resort offers and upmarket option. There are several other options in between these two excellent dive resorts.

 

Dive sites - SS President Coolidge, Million Dollar Point, Chails Reef, SS Tucker, Cindy’s Reef, 

 

Best time to dive - Water temperatures range between 26ºC with the dry season (Winter) between April and October and visibility tends to be between 30 - 40 metres.

 

Other activities - Jungle trekking, Village visits, Matavulu Blue Holes ( fresh water pools), World War 2 tours.
